Transmission remote for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Transmission Pocket connects to the Transmission torrent server you already run on a NAS, a Raspberry Pi, a Docker container or a seedbox, and puts the whole thing in your pocket: live speeds, magnet links from Safari, labels, speed limits and more than one server. Nothing is downloaded to your device and nothing about you is collected.
One-time purchase for iPhone, iPad and Mac. No subscription, no account, no tracking. Requires iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS 26.
The Transmission app you reach for first
Open it, see every transfer with its real speed, and get back to what you were doing. Tracker errors, stalled swarms and verification progress show up in the list, without tapping in.
Control Transmission from your iPhone
- Live transfer list
- Real-time download and upload speed, progress, ETA and status for every torrent. Search by pulling the list down, and filter by downloading, seeding, stopped, completed or active.
- Add from anywhere
- Tap a magnet link in Safari, paste one from the clipboard, or open a .torrent file from Files or the web. Choose the destination folder and labels before it starts.
- Full control
- Start, stop and remove torrents one at a time or in bulk. Reorder the queue, set priorities, and rename transfers and the files inside them.
- Torrent details
- Inspect files, trackers and peers. Set per-file priority, choose which files to download, and repair tracker lists that have gone stale.
- Speed limits that match Transmission's
- Per-torrent caps, global caps, seed ratio and idle limits, and Slow Mode with a schedule so it turns itself on in the evening. Move a torrent's download location.
- More than one server
- Save the seedbox and the NAS at home and switch between them with a tap.
- Notifications and Shortcuts
- Get told when a download finishes, as reliably as iOS background wake-ups allow. Shortcuts actions add a magnet or flip Slow Mode from an automation.
- Light on your battery
- Polling is kept light so the list stays smooth and the app goes easy on the battery. Statistics, a peer-port test, blocklist updates and magnet sharing are built in.
- iPad and Mac
- A real split view on iPad and a native Mac app, with System, Light, Dark and Purple themes.
Works with any Transmission server
Transmission Pocket talks to Transmission's remote interface (RPC), the same one the web UI and the transmission-remote command use. If you can open Transmission's web UI, you can use Transmission Pocket. No agent, plugin or account is needed on the server side.
- transmission-daemon on Linux
- Raspberry Pi
- Docker (linuxserver/transmission)
- Unraid
- TrueNAS
- Synology and QNAP NAS
- Transmission for Mac with Remote on
- Hosted seedboxes
Set up in two minutes
-
Turn on remote access in Transmission
In the Mac app: Preferences, then Remote. For transmission-daemon: set
rpc-enabledto true insettings.json. The default port is9091. Add a username and password if the server is reachable from outside your network. -
Enter the address in Transmission Pocket
Open Settings, type the server address and port, for example
nas.local:9091, plus the username and password if you set them. Tap Test Connection, then Save. Trailing slashes and partial paths are handled for you. -
Reach it from anywhere
Away from home, use the remote access you already have, such as a VPN, Tailscale or WireGuard, or a reverse proxy, and enter that address instead. Not set up yet? Tap Try Demo on the welcome screen to explore with sample data.
Transmission Pocket or the Transmission web UI?
The web UI works, but it was built for a desktop browser. On a phone you end up hunting for the tab and pasting links by hand.
| On your iPhone | Transmission Pocket | Web UI in Safari |
|---|---|---|
| Tap a magnet link in Safari and it is added | Yes | Copy, open the tab, paste |
| Notification when a download finishes | Yes | No |
| Shortcuts and automations | Yes | No |
| Switch between several servers | One tap | One bookmark per server |
| Open a .torrent file from Files | Yes | Upload through a file picker |
Frequently asked questions
Does Transmission Pocket download torrents to my iPhone?
No. Transmission Pocket is a remote control for a Transmission server you own and run. Downloads happen on that server. The app has no built-in content, search or trackers, and nothing is downloaded to your phone, iPad or Mac.
What address and port do I enter to connect to Transmission?
Enter the address of the machine running Transmission and its RPC port. Transmission listens on port 9091 by default, so a typical address is 192.168.1.20:9091 or nas.local:9091. If you set a username and password in Transmission's remote-access settings, enter those too, then tap Test Connection.
Can I control Transmission when I am away from home?
Yes. Transmission Pocket connects to whatever address you give it, so it works at home right away. From outside, reach your server the way you already do, for example a VPN, Tailscale or WireGuard, or a reverse proxy, and enter that address. Nothing extra needs to run on the server.
Does it work with Synology, Unraid, Raspberry Pi, Docker or a seedbox?
Yes. Anything that runs Transmission with remote access (RPC) enabled works: transmission-daemon on a Raspberry Pi or Linux box, the Docker image on Unraid, TrueNAS or Synology, the Mac app with Remote turned on, or a hosted seedbox. It is the same interface the Transmission web UI and the transmission-remote command use.
Can I add magnet links and .torrent files from Safari and Files?
Yes. Tap a magnet link in your browser and Transmission Pocket opens, even if the app was not running. You can also paste a magnet link from the clipboard, or open a .torrent file from the Files app or the web, then pick the destination folder and labels. Shortcuts actions let you add a magnet from an automation.
Is there a Mac version of Transmission Pocket?
Yes. Transmission Pocket runs as a native app on macOS 26 or later and is available on the Mac App Store. The same purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Family Sharing is supported.
Can I try it before I have set up a server?
Yes. Tap Try Demo on the welcome screen to explore the app with sample data. No server is required.
Does Transmission Pocket collect any data?
No. The App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. There is no account to create and no analytics. The app talks only to the Transmission server address you enter. See the privacy policy.
It cannot find my server on the home network. What should I check?
Allow Local Network access when iOS asks, or enable it later under Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network, Transmission Pocket. Then double-check the address, port, username and password, and make sure your device is on the same network as the server or that the server is reachable from outside. More on the support page.
